Weekend ‘o fun!

I technically started this post Friday evening thinking I would get a quick stream of consciousness post out there….and that didn’t happen. At all!

I can’t believe how quickly the weekend went by! Last week was the longest/fastest week at work and I just want long weekends every week. Is that too much to ask for? (I’m guessing “yes”, but still. I need more weekends.)

We drove to Charlotte yesterday for a birthday party. My friend Mendie lives just outside of Charlotte and her daughter is friends with my son! Hard to believe I’ll have a 6-year-old in two months. We tried to leave early so we could go for a hike. We did hike, and we were only a few minutes late to the party.

Have you checked out Kids In Parks? My husband discovered it late last year and we’ve done a few family hikes together. He and the boy have done a lot of hikes together (because honestly, the baby is not always the greatest hiker. And that’s ok.) For every track trail my boy does, they fill out a form through that site, and then he gets random things like stickers, badges, a bandanna, bag. All kinds of things.

So yesterday’s hike was 1.2 miles long. It’s funny because my son will be totally into hiking, and about a half mile in he’s like, “this is awful!” and he hates it until the end. But then he thinks it’s awesome again. That’s exactly how yesterday was.

The party was a Moana theme, my son had a blast playing with the other kids (and he didn’t even mind not winning the couple of games that were played. If you know my kid, this is HUGE.) He has a thing about singing “Happy Birthday.” I always tell him he doesn’t have to sing it, but he can’t get upset, and he has to be nice to the birthday boy or girl. Well, last night he told me, “I lied to mommy. I said I wasn’t going to sing happy birthday and I really did sing it.” Oh, buddy. 🙂

The baby did well napping in the car. She did NOT want to sleep in her pack and play during the party! Proud mom moment – the kids were all yelling about being careful with the baby crawling and my son said, “it’s ok! That’s my baby.” And the baby? She loves books! She’ll drop all of her toys to grab a book.

Last night I hit up Target and bought a Google Chromecast. How am I JUST getting this? It’s such a game changer for us. And basically I’m wife of the year for buying it.

Today I ran, and then corralled the kids for church. My husband deep cleaned our bathroom (it’s such an old house, and this bathroom really needs to be gutted. One day when we have money again – when we’re 70 – maybe we’ll remodel.) I made a dinner at 2pm just so I didn’t have to cook at 5. After the kids woke up from naps, I took my son to the pool. He wanted to go to the indoor pool, which worked out because I forced him to do some of his swim lesson activities before he could use anything to help him. I’m determined to help him gain confidence and swim this summer!

(This is how I felt about my entire run. It just wasn’t amazing for me today.)

My son starts back to his preschool just part-time this week (it basically changes over to a summer camp and it is a lot of fun for the kids.) I was supposed to have jury duty and was dismissed (yay!!) Work is going to be a monster, and we’re juggling kids schedules plus my husband’s schedule for the next two weeks. Oh and parties every weekend for the rest of the month. I’m not even kidding.

So. Tell me about your weekend. Big plans?
