This past weekend I was in DC and I took full advantage of my hotel location and went for two great runs. Unfortunately, I also ended up with epic blisters on my heels and I haven’t been able to wear shoes since Saturday.

I mean. That view.

Friday ended up being really cloudy and my photos were ok, but not as great as Saturday’s photos.

My run on Friday was 4.25 miles. And then I went on a 3.5-mile walk with a colleague.

My goal this whole time was to see the White House. I ran the Nike Women’s Half in DC two years ago – and we never saw the White House! This time around, I was staying a few blocks from it, so I saw it several times.

On Saturday, I met a Twitter friend who was also in DC for a conference. We set out to run 3 miles, and I ended up with 5. (And I wonder where my blisters came from….I blame the Lincoln monument.)

It was a memorable trip, and I’m so glad I skipped the fitness center this time (though Hyatt fitness centers tend to be amazing!)

I started this series in June, and I’d love to see where you’re running! This linkup will be open for two weeks. Plenty of time to compile a post.

Do you run in new cities? Do you prefer gyms versus the open road, if given the choice?

  1. I think you might have over done the running/walking a bit–I hope your feet have no more blisters by now–they can really hurt!! Washington DC is an amazing place-I have been there and know I missed several places–well there is always the next time.

  2. I am from DC and walking that area is so beautiful. I was once a runner and I know the feeling of taking in and being really attentive to the things around me so I know this run was so beautiful. When I would run I would pay close attention to sights around me and I found it didn’t make that 3rd or 4th mile so hard!

You are inspiring me to lace my running shoes back up.

  3. Your photos reminded me of how pretty DC is. All those historic buildings and monuments give a grandeur that is breathtaking… Hope your blisters heal soon.
