winter gardening. I may try it.

Our weather has been nuts lately. We’ve had unseasonably warm temperatures for over a month, and then there was a lot of hype about this snow storm we were going to get slammed with last night and today.

We got a lot of rain. And this weekend will be another couple of days of near-50 degree temperatures, and lots of sun. I haven’t seen one snowflake this week.

So I think I’m going to plant a winter garden.

With the help of my friend, Google, and knowing that a few vegetables do well in cooler temps, I’m going to try my hand at some winter lettuce and spinach. I have the seeds already on hand, and if they end up not growing, no big loss to me. I’ve considered carrots, too. I just don’t know if I have the seeds right now. Seeds aren’t easy to find at the moment, so I need to stick with what I have.

The space is wide open right now. My boxes are in great shape (above is a photo of the boxes last summer.)

I also have several plant pots that I’m going to plant a few herbs in. I want to get oregano going again (in a pot this time – I tore it out of the garden last summer) and work on parsley and mint. Potted plants should do well right now as I can leave them out and when we’re going to get the freezing temperatures, I’ll just pull them into the garage. No harm, right?

Have you ever tried planting a garden in winter months? Are you experiencing warmer-than-usual days right now?

I wish it would snow. Maybe if I do a garden, a blizzard will hit and ruin it? (And if it does, my feelings won’t be hurt!
