Yoda Hot Cocoa Bombs – Recipe and Tutorial
Yoda Hot Cocoa Bombs are a fun way to enjoy a cup of hot chocolate. Watch as Yoda melts away, and your hot chocolate appears – with marshmallows!
Our family really got into hot cocoa bombs in 2020, and they can be a pricey treat (and hard to find later in the colder seasons, when mass-produced.) I love the different hot chocolate bombs that have been created, but this Yoda hot cocoa bomb is super fun and the recipe can make more than one. This recipe can make four hot chocolate bombs – so enough for a family to enjoy before taking in your next movie night!
Why you’ll love these Yoda Hot Cocoa Bombs:
- Hot chocolate bombs are tasty
- These are less expensive than store bought
- Yoda is fun!
Equipment to make Yoda hot chocolate bombs:
- 2 Silicone Sphere Molds
- 1 small skillet over very low heat
- 1 disposable piping bag
- 1 large cookie sheet fitted with wax paper
- 1 small cookie sheet fitting with wax paper
- 1 outline of Yoda’s head (sketch this out on a piece of paper after drawing/tracking a circle. You really only need one decent ear shape and can trace that multiple times.)
Ingredients for these Yoda hot cocoa bombs:
- 2 bags of lime green candy melts
- 2 C of cocoa mix
- 1 C mini marshmallows
How to make Yoda Hot Cocoa Bombs:
- Step 1: Place about ½ cup of the candy melts aside for Yoda’s ears
- Step 2: Melt the remaining candy melts in increments of 45 seconds using a microwave safe bowl
- Step 3: Using a spoon, spoon about 1-2 Tablespoons of the candy melts into the mold
- Step 4: Carefully swirl the candy melt to completely coat the inside of the mold
- Step 5: Lightly shake the extra candy melt back into the bowl
Repeat steps 4 and 5 to fill the remaining molds. You should have 8 half sphere molds when you’re finished. - Step 6: Place the coated molds into the fridge for 5-10 minutes
- Step 7: Remove from the fridge and gently peel the silicone mold back away from the hardened shell
- Step 8: Carefully place the mold onto the cookie sheet
How to Make Yoda’s Ears:
- Melt the candy melts that were set aside in increments of 45 seconds
- Scoop the candy melts into the piping bag
- Cut out the outline of Yoda’s head and place onto the small cookie sheet
- Lay a piece of wax paper over the outline
- Using the piping bag, pipe an outline of Yoda’s ears
- Fill in the ears
- Repeat about 8-10 times that way you have extra in case an ear breaks when you build the cocoa bomb
- Place the tray into the fridge
How to Build Hot Cocoa molds
- Place 4 molds onto the large cookie sheet
- Place the small pan onto a stove top over low-medium heat
- Scoop about 1 ½ Tablespoon of cocoa powder into the bottom mold
- Place a small handful of mini marshmallows into the mold
- Carefully place the top mold onto the pan to melt the edge for a quick few seconds
- Quickly place the mold onto the top of the bottom mold and gently press down
- Allow the candy melt to harden
- Remove the ears from the fridge
- Carefully peel ears off the wax paper
- Quickly melt the edge of the ears using the warm pan
- Place the ears onto the sides of the mold
- Using the piping bag, pipe squiggly lines for Yoda’s forehead
- Allow for the detail to harden before enjoying!

How to Store Your Hot Chocolate Bombs
Normally I like to store hot chocolate bombs in the clamshell containers, however Yoda’s ears make this tricky. I would store these in an airtight container. Make sure they stay dry and cool. Don’t store on top of your refrigerator or near the oven. You don’t want them to melt before it’s time to drink hot chocolate!
