You capture….old signs
This week’s You Capture challenge was difficult. Old signs. Everything I thought I was going to do failed, and I have been so extremely busy this past week. Excuses, I know. So I set out at lunchtime (my first “real” lunch in a while) and got these photos….
The S&W Cafeteria. Sure, the sign is really part of the building, but it’s old. And it’s signage. And I love this building. The S&W Buidling opened in 1929, and was renovated a few years ago into the current space (there’s a restaurant in there.) My senior prom was actually held there and it was gorgeous. Even better than the Biltmore Estate, where my prom was held the year before. I’m also including a full shot of the building, to give you a better idea of what I’m talking about, and where this “sign” is.
Woolworth building. I didn’t realize just how old this building was (I walk by it often) until my stepmom was surprised to see it when they visited last month. There is still a diner inside, and the rest of the space has been turned into an artspace. The Woolworth building opened in the 1930s, and was restored in 2001.
And, this is where I work. The Citizen-Times š The newspaper was founded in 1870 as a weekly paper and became a daily in 1885. It was two newspapers and I believe the two newspapers merged in the 1970s to create the current paper.
I’m interested in seeing everyone else’s posts. This was tough. Head over to Beth’s blog to check other blogs out or to participate in the challenge!
great pictures! glad to see more areas are taking care of old buildings. There is so much history in them, nice to think our kids will have a chance to enjoy it too!
I agree with Mendie, I love that they restore old buildings and keep the integrity of it’s original.
great shots!
I love those first 2 buildings. There is just nothing like a old historical building. They cared about the little tiny details of every surface in the past. And that attention to detail is GORGEOUS!
funny, i remember our old Woolworth building and it looks just like yours :). great photos, i love them all! thanks for sharing.
my old sign pictures are posted now also. feel free to come on over and visit anytime :O).
The cafeteria sign is cool! The bowl of fruit is so unique! Great captures.
That first building is so beautiful. They don’t make buildings like that anymore!
Thank you so much for the backgrounder on the buildings š
