The zoo, fishing and the beach – all in one weekend
We’ve been on a whirlwind trip. We left Friday and headed east. We head home today.
We spent Friday at the NC Zoo (and I have several really great photos I can’t wait to share!)
(In case we aren’t friends in real life, you missed the talk last week about lemurs. My son asked if we could go to Madagascar because he didn’t remember seeing lemurs in real life. And Madagascar has lemurs – they’re kind of like a zoo – in my son’s head, at least.)
Saturday was spent around my in-laws house. My boy and my husband went out on the boat fishing (with my father-in-law) and someone caught his first fish!
No worries. The fish was released. After catching several more, my boy was questioning the hooks and if they hurt the fish. I’m afraid we may be raising a vegan soon.
Sunday found us at the beach for a couple of hours. I applied sunscreen to my entire family, and the boys still managed to get some sun. 🙁 Note to self (and something I talked to my son about last night), make sure the kids don’t get wet before having sunscreen applied.
All in all, it was a fun day. My daughter had a blast in the sand. We found a little tidal pool she played in most of the time. She loves water, and loved crawling after one of us if we strayed too far from her. My son absolutely loved jumping waves. He’s fearless now in the ocean (which is good and bad.) So funny to think of how scared he was 2 years ago – he wouldn’t let us walk near the water!
We’re heading home to Asheville at some point today. We aren’t rushing, but I don’t want to get home too late. Bedtimes have been wild, and my daughter has NOT slept through the night since sometime early last week. We’re all running on fumes. And to be a little more honest, I’m excited to sleep in my own bed and have the Fourth off. Let’s hope the baby gets back on her sleep schedule asap.
How did you celebrate the weekend?
The NC Zoo seems amazing, Jaime! Do you have any tips for visiting it?
