So Friday night I arrived in Philadelphia. I met really cool people on my flights (as could be seen on my Twitter-feed.) I met one guy from Montreal on the flight from Asheville to Atlanta. We discussed healthcare, which might seem odd, but it was really, really interesting to get an outsider’s perspective. In Atlanta, I met an Army reservist who was heading back to New Jersey. Super, super nice. And then the lady I was seated next to on the plane from Atlanta was nice and complimented a blanket I was working on. (I am crocheting baby blankets as “back-up” blankets for if/when my friends get pregnant.)
I met Cynthia in baggage-claim, grabbed my suitcase and we were off! Until we hit traffic. Insane amounts of traffic. Two hours later, we hit her town and I had to hit up Michael’s and a grocery store (I forgot the Bridal Bingo game and I had to make cupcakes for the bridal shower.) We grabbed dinner at Chili’s, where I met her fiance for the first time. I also used Chili’s as a moment to charge my cell phone during the wait period for a table. I know I looked strange, but my phone was DRAINED!
I baked and decorated cupcakes until midnight, and then I headed to bed….only to discover that Cynthia’s Westie, Madison, had gotten into my purse and eaten all of my vitamins. I’m not normally an avid vitamin-taker, but I packed enough vitamins for every day of my trip. Airplanes are full of germs, and I knew I needed an extra line of defense….and Maddie ate my defense.
I woke up early Saturday and headed out for a short run. I closed my bedroom door when I left, but when I returned from my 3-mile run (I told you it was short!) I found Cynthia in the room, and Maddie at my suitcase. The devil dog had eaten 12 of the favor boxes….filled with chocolates I had made on Wednesday and Thursday nights. Twelve times four chocolates in each box equals a lot of chocolate a 20-pound dog should NOT have! The favors made a return about an hour later in the form of dog vomit. (She threw up two or three more times, and then was fine. She ended up eating a Cliff bar later Saturday night and started in on my Coach purse on Sunday.)
The shower was in Delaware – about an hour and 10 minutes from where Cynthia lives. It was at another girl’s house who is also named Cynthia. (We’ll call her C2 from here on out.) C2 has an amazing house and did a wonderful job decorating. For the shower, I was responsible for the invitations, chocolate favors (which I now only had 18 of), the cake (cupcakes) and the games.
The shower was wonderful and Cynthia received a lot of fabulous gifts. Her family and friends are really, really awesome people!
Afterwards, four of us (me, Cynthia, C2 and Becky) headed to a dinner theater about 30 minutes away. It was decent food, and I was a little on the fence about the show – Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. I honestly had NOTHING to be concerned about, as the show was amazing! I loved it. Not sure about the other girls, but I enjoyed it. (I realize that I’m also very different from my friend and her friends. I’m not as conservative, and we just have a lot of differing opinions. It makes for interesting conversations, at least.)
We got back to Cynthia’s house just after 10:30 p.m. I was exhausted.
Sunday morning I woke up at 6:30, and we left the house at 8:30 stopping at Dunkin’ Donuts on our way to the airport.
I’m sad that I didn’t get to see much of the city, but we’re going to be back there the week before Christmas, and I’ll be with the husband. We’ll have almost an entire day to check out downtown Philly.
I grabbed a lunch for the plane (at the airport) and boarded the plane in which they weren’t ready to fly. I was a little concerned when they started asking people to give up their seats, as several of the seats on the plane were broken. The difference between Delta and US Airways has been this:
Delta charges $20 for bags you check, US Airways charges $25.
Delta has nicer seats, US Airways has leather seats, but the seats were pretty beat up.
Delta gave me a drink AND pretzels, complimentary. US Airways gave me a drink and wanted to charge me $2 for the pretzels. No thanks.
Delta people were much nicer.
Delta got me to my destinations EARLY.
Delta had areas to plug your laptops/cell phones/electronic devices in the waiting areas. US Airways had chairs and not much else. Not even enough chairs.
Delta wins.
And I finally arrived in Tampa……
